Senegal plans to showcase the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 trophy to home fans on Tuesday during an international friendly against Gambia at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium.
The Senegalese Football Federation confirmed the schedule in an official programme shared on its X account, detailing the day’s events: “14:00 — Gates open at Stade Abdoulaye Wade; 16:00 — Pre-match ceremony and live show featuring invited artists; 17:45 — Official presentation of the AFCON trophy; 18:00 — End of ceremony; and 19:00 — Kick-off: Senegal vs Gambia.”
The planned presentation reflects Senegal’s ongoing defiance following the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) controversial decision to strip them of the 2025 title.
The Teranga Lions had previously paraded the trophy during their World Cup warm-up match against Peru on Saturday at Stade de France in Paris.
The dispute originates from the chaotic AFCON 2025 final on January 18 in Rabat, Morocco, when Senegal walked off the pitch in protest after a penalty was awarded to the hosts.

Senegal went on to win 1-0 in extra time, but CAF’s appeals board ruled on March 17 that Senegal had forfeited the match, awarding Morocco a 3-0 victory and the championship.
Senegal condemned the ruling as “unfair, unprecedented and unacceptable” and has filed an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in hopes of overturning the decision.
Morocco, meanwhile, has insisted the matter is closed and expects the trophy to be returned.
To date, Senegal has refused to comply, leaving the case pending at CAS.
