EPL: I’m Not Better Than Frank, Tudor — De Zerbi Tells Spurs Fans

Newly appointed Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has downplayed comparisons with his predecessors Thomas Frank and Igor Tudor, insisting he does not see himself as superior as he prepares to take charge of his first match.

De Zerbi, who was named head coach on March 31, inherits a side struggling near the bottom of the Premier League table, with only a handful of fixtures remaining in the season.

The Italian becomes the club’s third manager this campaign, following brief spells by Frank and Tudor, the latter lasting just 44 days.

Speaking ahead of Friday’s clash against Sunderland, De Zerbi adopted a modest stance while acknowledging the work of those before him.

“I am not better than Frank or Tudor because I consider them very good coaches,” he said, adding, “I just try to bring my style, my character, and my personality to achieve our target.”

Tottenham’s struggles have been evident, with the team yet to secure a league victory in 2026 and enduring inconsistent performances throughout the season.

Their poor run has dragged them close to the relegation zone, intensifying the urgency for a turnaround under new leadership.

Despite the pressure, De Zerbi expressed optimism about the squad and appreciation for the opportunity to manage the club.

“For me, it is a big opportunity because Tottenham are a very important club in the Premier League.

“I am proud and happy to be here, and I thank the club for their trust,” he said.

He also appealed for unity between the team and its supporters, stressing the importance of commitment and discipline.

“The fans are suffering like us, but for them there is only one club,” he added. “We have to make them happy with the right spirit and behaviour.”

Tottenham now head into a decisive stretch of matches, beginning with De Zerbi’s debut against Sunderland, as they fight to retain their top-flight status.
