An 18-year-old, Mustapha Isah, has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Gombe State High Court for the murder of a 58-year-old woman, Aishatu Abdullahi, also known as “Damori.”

Delivering judgment on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, Justice Abdulhamid-Mohammed Yakubu of Court No. 2 held that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the defendant was responsible for the offense of culpable homicide punishable with death.

The court found that the incident occurred on October 20, 2023, at about 9:00 p.m. in the Jekadafari area of Gombe State, where Isah unlawfully entered the victim’s residence and attacked her with a knife, inflicting fatal injuries.

The court relied on evidence presented during trial, which established a clear chain linking the convict to the crime.

Justice Yakubu, in his ruling, stressed that the prosecution had successfully discharged the burden of proof required under the law.

He further noted the sanctity of human life, stating that offences involving unlawful killing attract the highest penalty available to serve as deterrence to others in society.

The court accordingly sentenced Mustapha Isah to death by hanging in line with the provisions of Nigerian criminal law.
