The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, reserved judgment in the appeal filed by a factional national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, in the ongoing dispute over the party’s leadership.
A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Mohammed Garba, announced that the date for judgment would be communicated to counsel after lawyers to all parties adopted their final written addresses and urged the court to grant their respective reliefs.
The appeal, marked SC/CV/180/2026, is challenging the March 12, 2026 decision of the Court of Appeal, which dismissed Mark’s earlier appeal in the protracted leadership tussle within the ADC.

The case stems from earlier proceedings at the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Justice Emeka Nwite, on September 4, 2025, declined to grant interim injunctive orders sought through an ex parte application filed by party chieftain Nafiu Bala Gombe.
Dissatisfied with both rulings, Mark escalated the matter to the apex court, seeking to overturn the appellate judgment and restrain further actions arising from the disputed leadership structure.
The suit is one of several cases linked to the lingering internal crisis in the ADC, which has seen rival factions lay competing claims to the party’s national leadership.
With proceedings concluded, attention now shifts to the Supreme Court’s final verdict, which is expected to provide clarity on the legal status of the party’s leadership and potentially influence its internal direction ahead of future political engagements.
