Fresh COVID-19 Alert: Cross River Traces, Isolates 10 Contacts

The Cross River State Government has identified and isolated 10 individuals who had contact with a Chinese national linked to a recent COVID-19 case in the state.

The development followed intensive contact tracing by health authorities after the index case was confirmed.

Speaking on the situation, the state epidemiologist, Inyang Ekpenyong, said the affected individuals were traced to the patient’s workplace in Akamkpa Local Government Area and have since been placed under movement restriction to prevent further spread.

“We’ve restricted their movements to their homes so that they do not spread the symptoms to other persons,” she said.

Ekpenyong added that the Chinese national is currently receiving treatment at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital and is responding positively.

She reminded the public that COVID-19 has not been completely eradicated, urging residents to maintain preventive measures such as regular hand hygiene, use of face masks, and adherence to public health guidelines.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Health, Henry Egbe Ayuk, confirmed the re-emergence of the virus in the state, noting that the government had activated necessary response mechanisms to contain any potential outbreak.

“COVID-19 is not peculiar to Nigeria. But we’re determined to contain it. There’s no cause for alarm,” Ayuk stated.

Health officials say surveillance efforts have been intensified across the state as authorities work to prevent further transmission and reassure residents of the government’s preparedness.
