The Oyo State House of Assembly has thrown its weight behind Governor Seyi Makinde, firmly rejecting claims of an alleged impeachment plot and describing the reports as unfounded.
The position was reached during Wednesday’s plenary in Ibadan, where lawmakers unanimously passed a vote of confidence in the governor, while also reaffirming support for Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
Leading the motion, Majority Leader Sanjo Adedoyin dismissed the speculation, describing it as “baseless, distracting, and politically motivated.”
He said, “The Assembly remains united and committed to its constitutional responsibilities, and no formal communication or process suggesting impeachment had been initiated within the chamber.”
The Assembly also addressed wider political rumours linking the governor, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, and some lawmakers to alleged political tensions, insisting that the claims lack substance.

The controversy followed earlier remarks by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, who had alleged political moves involving the monarch. Both the state government and the palace had previously denied the claims.
During the session, Deputy Speaker Mohammed Fadeyi supported the motion, describing the Assembly as cohesive and commending the Makinde administration’s performance in key sectors, including infrastructure, education, and healthcare.
Chief Whip Gbenga Oyekola also distanced the House from the impeachment narrative, warning against the spread of misinformation.
“There is no division in this House. We are focused on governance and delivering democratic dividends to the people of Oyo State through quality representation.
“The rumours making the rounds exist only in the realm of speculation and should be disregarded in their entirety by the public,” he said.
He further stressed that the Assembly remains focused on its legislative duties and would not be influenced by external pressures, reiterating lawmakers’ continued backing for Governor Makinde.
