NNPC Disowns Fake Refinery Scrap Sales Claims, Warns Impersonators

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has dismissed reports alleging that it is selling scrap materials, equipment, and components from its refineries, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 24, 2026, and signed by its Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Andy Odeh, the company said it has not authorized any sale of refinery assets or commenced any bidding process involving its Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries.

NNPC Ltd clarified that it has not issued any request for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or approvals for the disposal of scrap metals, refinery components, or any items from the inventories or warehouses of its facilities.

The company also raised concern over individuals allegedly impersonating its officials, claiming to act as agents to facilitate fraudulent sales of refinery equipment and scrap materials.

It warned that such persons are not recognized by the organization and are attempting to mislead the public.

“For the avoidance of doubt, NNPC Limited is not conducting, nor has it authorised, any sale of scrap metals, equipment, or refinery components from any of its facilities,” the statement said.

NNPC Ltd urged the public, businesses, and stakeholders to disregard such claims and stressed that any legitimate asset disposal would only be carried out through transparent, regulated processes communicated via official channels.

It also advised that all suspected fraudulent activity should be reported to law enforcement authorities.

Reaffirming its position, the company said it remains committed to transparency, accountability, and the proper management of Nigeria’s energy assets.

The clarification comes amid continued scrutiny of the country’s refineries, which have remained largely inactive for years despite repeated rehabilitation efforts.

However, the Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Bayo Ojulari, has maintained that the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries are not being sold, but are undergoing processes aimed at restoring them to full operational capacity.
