Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Division Nigerian Army have recorded major successes in ongoing operations against oil theft and illegal refining activities across the Niger Delta.
According to a statement issued on Sunday, by the Acting Deputy Director 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Danjuma Jonah Danjuma, the operations were conducted between April 1 and 26, 2026.
It was gathered that soldiers working alongside other security agencies arrested nine suspected oil thieves, dismantled 10 illegal refining sites, and confiscated more than 130,000 litres of stolen crude oil.
They also recovered over 26,000 litres of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), with the total value of seized products estimated at over ₦250 million.
In Rivers State, troops carried out multiple operations across creeks, forests, and inland areas.
Acting on credible intelligence, they intercepted an abandoned truck loaded with 45,000 litres of suspected stolen petroleum products along the East-West Road in Ahoada East Local Government Area.
At the Orashi National Forest in Ahoada West, a large reservoir containing more than 35,000 litres of crude oil was discovered.
Further operations led to the uncovering of another reservoir filled with over 26,000 litres of illegally refined AGO, while equipment used for siphoning petroleum products was destroyed.
In Ebocha, Omoku, troops seized 266 sacks containing 17,760 litres of stolen products.

Additional discoveries were made in Abessa Forest, where illegal refining equipment and storage pits were dismantled, and in Abua/Odual Local Government Area, where more stolen crude was recovered.
In Delta State, soldiers uncovered a pipeline tapping point connected to a storage pit containing over 2,700 litres of stolen products in Ethiope East Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, in Akwa Ibom State, troops recovered 45 bags of illegally refined AGO in Ikot Ekpene, as suspects fled upon sighting security personnel.
Operations also extended to Bayelsa State, where troops maintained pressure on criminal networks, effectively restricting their activities across key locations.
The General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Emmanuel Eric Emekah, commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to sustain the momentum in the fight against economic sabotage in the region.
Military authorities say the intensified operations are part of broader efforts to curb oil theft, protect national resources, and improve security in the Niger Delta.
