Sowore Mocks Malami, Says ‘Justice System Now Dealing With You’

Human rights activist and publisher Omoyele Sowore took aim at former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami during an encounter at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday, using the moment to criticise the country’s justice system.

In a video that has circulated widely online, Sowore told Malami that he was now facing the same system he once defended while serving under former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“You see how it feels now to be persecuted. When you were with Buhari at that time, you were bragging. We warned you then that there is failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you,” Sowore said.

He added, “There is failure in the system. The system is dealing with you now.”

Sowore, who has had repeated confrontations with security agencies, used the exchange to underline what he described as systemic flaws affecting both critics and former officials.

“We are not all on the same side… even the oppressors are oppressing you now,” he said.

In a symbolic gesture, he also offered Malami a cap, describing it as a sign of resistance.

“I want to give you my cap. This is a revolutionary cap,” he said.

Despite the criticism, Sowore acknowledged Malami’s composure during the encounter.

“At least I’m glad that you are strong,” Sowore said.

He went further to restate his long-held position on governance and accountability, insisting that his stance remains unchanged.

“As far as the Nigeria project is concerned, no matter how powerful you people are, we will never support you. We are resilient till tomorrow,” he said.

Responding briefly, Malami maintained that he remains engaged with the legal process and continues to honour court appearances.

“I can never be down. Well, I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending. And I remain strong,” he said.

He added that although he has been participating in meetings of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), he was unable to attend the opposition summit in Ibadan over the weekend.
