The Nigeria Police Force has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing a man, dressed in police-branded attire, allegedly threatening passengers while driving a commercial bus in Lagos.
The disturbing footage, reportedly recorded around the Eko Bridge axis, captures the driver—wearing a police T-shirt and cap—engaged in a heated exchange with passengers.
During the altercation, the man allegedly issued threats to kill occupants of the bus and dump their bodies in a nearby river.
Passengers in the video are heard confronting the driver over his comments, with one warning him against making such statements.
Others reportedly threatened to record and share the incident online, prompting the driver to respond defiantly, daring them to reveal his identity.
An eyewitness account shared on social media platform X detailed how the situation escalated after the driver abruptly halted the journey mid-route to purchase fuel, leaving passengers stranded without explanation.
“When passengers questioned the sudden stop, he became aggressive instead of addressing their concerns. He began issuing threats, saying he would kill us and throw our bodies into the water near Eko Bridge,” the post read.

Reacting to the incident, the Force’s New Media Officer, Aliyu Giwa, confirmed that authorities are reviewing the footage to determine the identity of the individual involved.
According to Giwa, preliminary findings suggest that while the man wore clothing bearing “NPF/Police” markings, he was not dressed in an official police uniform. His status as a serving officer, he added, remains unverified.
“Such behaviour is unprofessional and unacceptable. Any conduct that involves threats or intimidation of citizens will not be condoned,” he stated.
The police have urged members of the public with relevant information to assist in identifying the suspect by contacting the nearest police station or using official communication channels.
Authorities assured that appropriate action would be taken once investigations establish the facts surrounding the incident.
