UEFA Investigate Declan Rice Over Referee Comments, Possible Ban

UEFA are reportedly preparing to open an investigation into comments made by Declan Rice following Arsenal’s 1–1 draw against Atlético Madrid, with possible disciplinary action, including a suspension, being considered.

The England international midfielder raised eyebrows after the Champions League encounter with his post-match remarks, where he reflected on the intensity of the competition and also questioned key refereeing decisions during the game.

Speaking after the match, Rice said:

“Champions League is totally different, I think. You have to be careful in both boxes because they give absolutely EVERYTHING.”

He went further to express frustration over a penalty incident involving Eberechi Eze, suggesting Arsenal were denied a clear spot-kick.

“The second one on Eze, it’s a CLEAR penalty. I don’t know how that has not been given. I think the Atlético fans provoked the referee’s decision and changed his mind.”

UEFA officials are now said to be reviewing the comments as part of their post-match disciplinary assessment process, particularly focusing on remarks that could be interpreted as questioning officiating integrity.

Any potential sanction has not yet been confirmed.
