The Nigeria Police Force has commenced disciplinary proceedings against a police officer captured in a viral social media video displaying conduct described as inconsistent with the ethics and standards of the Force.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placide, the officer was identified as a sergeant attached to the Ikole-Ekiti Divisional Police Headquarters in Ekiti State.
The police said the Ekiti State Command swiftly traced and detained the officer after the video surfaced online and sparked reactions on social media.
“The Nigeria Police Force has taken firm and decisive action following the circulation of a video on social media showing a police officer in camouflage uniform displaying conduct grossly inconsistent with the standards of the Force,” the statement said.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, was said to have ordered a full psychological and medical evaluation of the officer as part of the disciplinary procedure.
Police authorities explained that the assessment would help determine any underlying health concerns while ensuring a thorough and responsible handling of the case.

“The assessment is a mandatory prerequisite to the formal disciplinary process, ensuring that the Force addresses both the conduct violation and any underlying health concerns in a thorough and responsible manner,” the statement added.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, condemned the officer’s conduct, describing it as a serious breach of the professionalism, discipline, and decorum expected from personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The Force reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on substance abuse and any form of behaviour capable of tarnishing the image of the police or weakening public confidence in the institution.
“The Force maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward substance abuse and any behavior that undermines the integrity of the uniform or erodes public trust in the institution,” the statement noted.
The police assured members of the public that appropriate actions would be taken in line with the Force’s disciplinary procedures.
