Tragedy has struck the African Democratic Congress in Jigawa State following the death of former House of Representatives member, Abba Anas Adamu, who reportedly died while in the custody of kidnappers.
Sources revealed that the abductors later handed over his lifeless body to family members after receiving ransom payment for the release of another kidnapped politician, Ali Tukur Gantsa.
The two politicians were said to have been travelling from Kano to Abuja to attend an ADC congress when they were abducted by gunmen last Wednesday near Jere.
According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded N100 million ransom but negotiations later reduced the amount. A sum of N50 million was eventually paid to secure the release of Gantsa.
Family sources disclosed that the victims were held in a forest by the abductors for several days under harsh conditions.
Anas, who reportedly battled asthma and hypertension, was said to have been without his medication throughout the period of captivity, leading to a deterioration in his health condition.

Despite efforts by Gantsa to encourage and support him during the ordeal, the former lawmaker allegedly died before the ransom negotiations were concluded.
Sources close to the family said the kidnappers initially concealed his death until one of the abductors hinted at the development.
It was further gathered that Anas’ son and driver delivered the ransom before the abductors released Gantsa and showed the deceased politician’s son his father’s corpse.
The incident has thrown political associates, party members, and supporters into mourning, with many describing the late politician as a humble and respected figure known for his commitment to the people.
As of the time of filing this report, the African Democratic Congress in Jigawa State had yet to issue an official statement on the incident, while arrangements were ongoing for the burial of the deceased in Kano.
