The Supreme Court of Nigeria has affirmed the 12-year prison sentence handed to Dauda Sani Haladu for assaulting his 15-year-old domestic worker in Abuja.
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday, describing the judgment as a major victory in the fight against sexual and gender-based violence.
According to the agency, an FCT High Court presided over by Justice M.A. Nasir had earlier convicted and sentenced Haladu in 2021.
NAPTIP stated that the apex court delivered its final judgment on May 8, 2026, upholding both the conviction and sentence of the 42-year-old convict.

The agency explained that the incident occurred on March 11, 2017, when the convict allegedly took advantage of the absence of his wife and children to assault the victim, identified as Judith James, a pseudonym used to protect her identity, at their Abuja residence.
According to the statement, the convict allegedly threatened the victim after the incident in an attempt to silence her.
However, the victim later confided in a school official, leading to NAPTIP’s intervention and the eventual arraignment of the defendant on November 11, 2017, under Section 1(2) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act.
NAPTIP said the judgment sends a strong message that perpetrators of violence against vulnerable persons, especially children and domestic workers, will face justice.
“This final judgment serves as a stern reminder that the law is patient but persistent,” the agency stated
