Outgoing Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri has secured the All Progressives Congress senatorial ticket for Adamawa North after emerging unopposed in the party’s primaries held on Monday, May 18.
Fintiri’s path to victory was cleared following the decision of the incumbent senator, Amos Yohanna, not to seek re-election.
In the Adamawa South senatorial contest, the state Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami, clinched the party’s ticket after defeating former senator Grace Bent and retired Federal Permanent Secretary Ismaila Numan.
Meanwhile, the party postponed its primaries in the Adamawa Central senatorial district due to logistical setbacks.
Explaining the decision, the APC spokesman in the state, Victor Dogo, said delays in the arrival of materials made it impossible to conduct a uniform exercise across the zone.

“The electoral materials did not arrive on time in some parts of the senatorial zone, so we felt it was not proper to conduct elections in some of the local government areas and leave others out of the contest. A date will soon be fixed for the primaries in the Central Senatorial Zone,” he said.
An aspirant in the affected district, Aliyu Abbati, backed the postponement, describing it as a fair decision that benefits all contenders.
“I feel the party leadership is working in the interest of our great party. It gives all of us the opportunity to campaign again and reach out to areas we could not reach before, so I commend our leaders for that decision,” he said.
The primaries come days after another aspirant from the southern zone, Peter Fwa, withdrew from the race and defected from the party, citing alleged imposition of a candidate ahead of the exercise.
