JAMB Releases 279 Withheld UTME Results After Malpractice Review

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has released 279 previously withheld results from the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination following investigations into alleged examination malpractice.

The development was confirmed on Thursday in a statement issued by JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, through the Board’s official X platform.

According to the examination body, the decision came after a review of cases involving candidates suspected of engaging in malpractice during the examination.

JAMB explained that while some results were released after candidates were cleared of wrongdoing, others had been cancelled where evidence of examination misconduct was established.

The Board added that results from certain centres remain under investigation due to suspicious activities reportedly detected by its monitoring teams or adverse reports received during the conduct of the examination.

“Where sufficient evidence of culpability is established, such results will be cancelled,” the statement noted.

The 2026 UTME, which was conducted between April 16 and April 23, recorded over two million candidates across accredited Computer-Based Test centres within and outside Nigeria.

JAMB advised candidates yet to access their results to check their status by sending “UTMERESULT” to either 55019 or 66019 using the phone number linked to their registration.

The Board also unveiled the list of top-performing candidates in the 2026 examination, with a candidate seeking admission into the University of Lagos emerging as the highest scorer.

In addition, JAMB retained 150 as the minimum cut-off mark for admission into Nigerian universities for the 2026/2027 academic session, while polytechnics will continue to admit candidates from a benchmark of 100.

The examination body further announced a major policy adjustment for admission into colleges of education, stating that candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education programmes would no longer be required to sit for the UTME.

Under the revised guideline, prospective NCE students will only need a minimum of four O’Level credits to qualify for admission into colleges of education nationwide.
