Wendy Achumba, a student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State, has been found dead in her off-campus apartment in what authorities suspect to be a murder by unknown assailants.
First Daily gathered that the incident reportedly happened on Thursday, May 21, sparking shock within the school community.
The deceased, originally from Isiala-Ngwa in Abia State, was said to have completed her midwifery training and was undergoing post-basic studies at the time of her death.
Circumstances surrounding the killing remain unclear, with investigators yet to establish a clear motive.
Confirming the development on Friday, May 22, the Imo State Police Command said it had begun a full-scale investigation and launched efforts to apprehend those responsible.
“The Command is aware of the tragic incident involving the death of a female student of the College of Nursing, Umulogho, whose body was discovered in her private off-campus apartment,” Henry Okoye, spokesperson for the command, said in a statement.

Okoye explained that police officers and the Divisional Police Officer visited the scene shortly after the report was received, where an initial assessment was carried out.
He added that the remains of the victim were subsequently evacuated and deposited at the morgue for preservation and further examination.
According to him, detectives have commenced investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death and identify those involved.
The police also confirmed that one suspect has already been arrested and is undergoing preliminary interrogation as part of ongoing inquiries.
“Consequently, the Command appeals to students and members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the situation is under control and that every effort is being made to ensure those behind the act are brought to justice,” the statement added.
The killing has heightened concerns among students and residents, with calls growing for improved security around off-campus student housing in the area.
