ICE Arrests Nigerian Man in LA Over Mail Theft, Bank Fraud

The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Los Angeles has arrested a 49-year-old Nigerian man, identified as Etinosa Osahon, over allegations of mail theft, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft.

According to the agency, Osahon was arrested on May 21, 2026, during an operation carried out by ICE operatives in Los Angeles, United States.

In an official statement, ICE confirmed that the Nigerian national is currently in custody pending immigration proceedings that may lead to his removal from the country.

The agency stated: “ICE Los Angeles arrested Etinosa Osahon, 49, of Nigeria, May 21. Osahon’s criminal record includes stealing and being in possession of stolen mail, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft. He is in ICE custody pending removal.”

Authorities added that the case remains under review as immigration processes continue to determine his legal status and potential deportation from the United States.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE, is a federal agency under the Department of Homeland Security responsible for enforcing immigration laws and investigating cross-border crimes.

The agency has frequently faced public scrutiny and controversy over its enforcement practices, including deportation operations, detention conditions, workplace raids, and allegations of rights violations.

ICE has carried out large-scale immigration raids across workplaces and communities in the United States, often drawing criticism from activists who accuse the agency of separating families and overreaching its authority.

Under previous administrations, including the Trump era, deportation policies were expanded significantly, with some migrants being removed to third countries where they had limited or no prior connection.

The agency has also faced accusations from civil rights groups of racial profiling, warrantless entries into homes, and excessive use of force during enforcement operations. However, supporters argue that ICE plays a critical role in national security and immigration control.

The latest arrest adds to ongoing debates in the United States over immigration enforcement, border security, and the future of ICE’s operational powers.
