The Nigerian Army has alerted Nigerians to the activities of fraudsters operating fake social media accounts in the names of senior military officers to scam unsuspecting members of the public.
In a statement issued on Sunday, May 24, 2026, through its official X handle, the Army said the fraudulent Facebook accounts were created in the name of the Deputy Chief of Standards and Evaluation (Army), Major General Raymond Utsaha, while using the photograph of the Chief of Policy and Plans (Army), Major General Bamidele Alabi.
The Army described the accounts as fake and warned that they were created with the intention of deceiving individuals through false claims, unauthorized online engagements and financial solicitations.

It urged members of the public to disregard any communication, friend requests or requests for money originating from the accounts, stressing that the profiles have no connection with the Nigerian Army or the affected officers.
The military also reiterated that senior officers do not conduct official transactions, award contracts, request financial assistance or discuss sensitive matters through personal social media accounts or unofficial online platforms.
The Army advised Nigerians to remain vigilant and report suspicious online activities or fake accounts to the appropriate security agencies.
It added that efforts were ongoing to track and take action against individuals and groups involved in cyber impersonation and related fraudulent activities.
