FG Declares Two-Day Public Holiday For Eid-el-Kabir Celebration

The Federal Government has announced Wednesday, May 27, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in commemoration of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.

The declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement released on Monday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani.

According to the statement, the public holidays underscore the Federal Government’s recognition of the spiritual importance of Eid-ul-Adha to millions of Muslims in Nigeria and across the world.

Tunji-Ojo congratulated Muslim faithful at home and in the diaspora, describing the festival as one deeply rooted in sacrifice, obedience to God, and compassion for humanity.

He urged Nigerians to take advantage of the holiday period to pray for national peace, unity, security, and economic prosperity.

“The Federal Government urges all Nigerians to use this period for prayer and sober reflection, asking for divine guidance upon the country as it continues its pursuit of peace, security, and prosperity for every citizen,” the statement noted.

The minister also encouraged citizens to uphold the values of brotherhood, peaceful coexistence, and national unity during the festive season.

The Federal Government further wished Muslims across the country a peaceful, joyous, and fulfilling Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
