The Nigeria Police Force in the Federal Capital Territory has deployed Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams to worship centres, recreational facilities, and other public locations ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebrations.
The deployment is part of enhanced security measures aimed at ensuring a peaceful and incident-free celebration across the FCT, according to authorities.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Sanusi, said the Command had intensified intelligence-led operations and coordinated patrols across the territory.
He noted that the Command is working in collaboration with sister security agencies, including the military, the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Nigeria Immigration Service under a joint security operation code-named “Operation Sweep FCT.”
According to the statement, the security architecture has been structured into operational sectors across the territory, with personnel conducting continuous patrols and coordinated interventions aimed at preventing crime and responding swiftly to emergencies.
As part of the preventive strategy, EOD teams have been directed to carry out proactive sweeps of designated worship centres, recreational centres, and other venues expected to host large gatherings during the festivities.

The Command also disclosed that intelligence-led raids on identified flashpoints and locations linked to criminal and drug-related activities had been approved, with strict instructions that officers must operate professionally and within the law.
In preparation for the celebration, the Commissioner of Police also held a virtual strategic meeting with Divisional Police Officers and Crime Officers across the FCT, where he charged them to maintain vigilance and professionalism.
He emphasised increased visibility policing, rapid response to distress calls, and stronger community engagement, while warning against misconduct or abuse of power by officers.
Residents of the FCT were urged to remain law-abiding, security-conscious, and to promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies through emergency hotlines.
The Command assured the public of its readiness to ensure a safe environment before, during, and after the Eid-el-Kabir celebrations across the territory.
