Popular gospel singer Adeyinka Alaseyori has come under heavy criticism on social media after urging Nigerians to support security efforts with prayers and insisting that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is making efforts to address the country’s challenges.
Speaking on the state of insecurity in the country in a video circulating on social media on Tuesday, Alaseyori argued that while security agencies are working, there are situations where human efforts alone may not be enough, making prayers necessary for successful operations.
According to the singer, security personnel can sometimes be deployed to troubled areas without being able to immediately locate criminals, and divine intervention may be needed to aid their mission.
She also maintained that it would be unfair to claim that the current government is not working, a remark that quickly sparked reactions across social media platforms.
Her comments generated widespread debate, with many Nigerians disagreeing with her position and accusing her of defending the government despite the persistent security and economic challenges facing the country.

Several social media users criticized the singer’s remarks, arguing that government officials and security agencies should be held accountable for addressing insecurity rather than relying on prayers alone. Others alleged that her comments appeared to favor the administration.
However, some supporters defended Alaseyori, saying prayer has always played a role in national life and that citizens can support security efforts spiritually while also demanding improved governance and accountability.
The controversy has since fueled fresh discussions online about the role of faith, government responsibility, and public expectations in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges.
