Slovan Bratislava Appoints Yaya Touré As New Head Coach

Former Ivory Coast international and ex-Barcelona and Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré has officially embarked on his managerial career after being appointed head coach of Slovak champions Slovan Bratislava.

The 43-year-old, widely regarded as one of Africa’s greatest midfielders, takes on his first senior managerial role after spending recent years gaining coaching experience and working behind the scenes at various clubs.

Touré, who enjoyed a glittering playing career that included league titles in Spain and England, as well as the UEFA Champions League with Barcelona, had long expressed his ambition to move into football management following his retirement from professional football.

His appointment marks a new chapter for both the former midfielder and Slovan Bratislava, one of Slovakia’s most successful clubs.

The club will be hoping Touré can bring his wealth of experience and winning mentality to the dugout as they continue to compete for domestic honours and European success.

During his playing days, Touré became a fan favourite at Manchester City, where he played a pivotal role in the club’s rise to prominence, helping them secure multiple Premier League titles and domestic trophies.

He also enjoyed success with the Ivory Coast national team, captaining the Elephants and helping them win the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.

The move to Slovakia represents a significant milestone in Touré’s post-playing career as he seeks to establish himself among football’s next generation of coaches.

With his appointment now confirmed, attention will turn to how the former midfield maestro adapts to life on the touchline as he begins his managerial adventure with Slovan Bratislava.
