Troops Destroy Terrorists’ Camp, Recover Arms In Kebbi

Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have recovered a large cache of weapons, improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and other equipment after overpowering members of the Lakurawa terrorist group during an offensive operation in Kebbi State.

The operation was carried out on June 14 in the Dogon Daji general area of Dandi Local Government Area as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating across the North-West.

According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Tuesday, and signed by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Olaniyi Osoba, troops engaged the terrorists during a coordinated offensive.

The military said the sustained assault forced the terrorists to abandon their positions and flee the area.

Troops subsequently launched an aggressive pursuit along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, leading to the discovery of a camp and the recovery of a significant quantity of weapons and logistics equipment abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.

Items recovered during the operation included rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) launcher tubes, several RPG warheads, multiple improvised explosive devices, two motorcycles and battery chargers.

Soldiers also recovered various personal belongings believed to have been used by members of the terrorist group.

The military said no casualties were recorded among the troops during the operation.

The military described the operation as a major blow to the operational capability of the Lakurawa group, noting that the seizure of explosives and heavy-calibre weapons would significantly disrupt future attacks and criminal activities.

Operation Fansan Yamma said the success reflects the determination of security forces to sustain pressure on terrorist and bandit groups across the North-West region.

The military reaffirmed its commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and dismantling networks responsible for insecurity in affected communities.

The military also assured residents that ongoing operations would continue until terrorist and bandit groups are eliminated and lasting peace restored across the region.

Operation Fansan Yamma urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information to aid ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-banditry operations.
