Portugal were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw against World Cup newcomers DR Congo in their opening Group K clash, with Cristiano Ronaldo unable to find the back of the net.
The Portuguese made a bright start and took the lead just six minutes into the encounter when Joao Neves powered home a header to put his side in front.
Portugal dominated much of the first half and appeared on course for victory, but DR Congo showed resilience and continued to push for an equaliser.
Their efforts were rewarded deep into first-half stoppage time when Yoane Wissa rose highest to head home in the 45+5th minute, bringing the Africans level before the break.

The second half saw Portugal search for a winner, with Ronaldo among those looking to make the difference, but DR Congo’s defence held firm to deny the European giants.
Despite their attacking quality, Portugal could not find a breakthrough as the debutants produced a disciplined display to earn a historic point on the World Cup stage.
The draw leaves both teams with one point in Group K as they look ahead to their remaining fixtures in the race for a place in the knockout rounds.
