OOU Mourns Slain Student, Suspends Lectures For Thursday

Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, has suspended all academic activities for Thursday, June 18, 2026, following the killing of a student during an armed robbery incident in the host community in the early hours of the day.

The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the university’s Deputy Registrar and Head of Corporate Affairs Division, Niyi Oduwole.

In the statement, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ayodeji Agboola, acting on behalf of the University Senate, directed that lectures scheduled for Thursday, June 18, 2026, be put on hold to allow members of the university community mourn the deceased student.

The student was killed during a robbery attack in Ago-Iwoye township, an incident that has thrown the campus community into mourning.

The university management expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and sympathised with students over the loss, describing it as a painful moment for the institution.

It further said it is working closely with security agencies to strengthen safety measures within and around the campus and the host community.

Authorities also urged students to remain calm and avoid any action that could worsen tensions, as investigations into the incident continue.

The university reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property, pledging improved security measures to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
