NDC Disowns Viral Candidate Lists For Imo, Abia, Anambra Polls

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has distanced itself from purported lists of candidates for upcoming elections in Imo, Abia and Anambra states circulating on social media, describing the documents as fake and unauthorised.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Secretary, Ikenna Enekweizu, urged members and the public to disregard the lists, insisting they did not originate from the party’s national headquarters.

According to Enekweizu, the NDC has already submitted the authentic list of candidates for the affected states to the Independent National Electoral Commission through the procedures prescribed by the Electoral Act.

“The general public, especially members of the NDC in Imo, Abia, Anambra and other affected states, are hereby urged to disregard the lists of candidates widely circulating on social media as the authentic lists of our party’s candidates from the aforementioned states.

The said lists are fake and did not emanate from the party headquarters,” the statement read.

The party alleged that the documents were being circulated by individuals seeking to create confusion and distract the NDC from its political activities ahead of the elections.

Enekweizu said the party had launched an investigation to determine the source of the purported ecandidate lists and uncover those responsible for circulating the information.

“Such lists in circulation are being peddled by mischief makers and those who do not wish the party well.

However, the party is investigating the sources of such fabrications and leakages as they are desperate attempts to cause ill will and distractions within the party,” he stated.

The NDC reassured its members of its commitment to internal unity, transparency and due process, while reiterating its resolve to provide what it described as a credible alternative political platform for Nigerians.

The party urged supporters to rely only on information released through its official channels and to disregard unauthorised publications relating to its candidates and internal affairs.
