The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has held discussions with the management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) over the suspension of the institution’s Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, James Adio.
The engagement took place on Friday, June 19, 2026, and was aimed at addressing concerns raised by students following the disciplinary action against the union leader.
During the meeting, NANS representatives sought explanations from the university authorities on the circumstances that led to Adio’s suspension, while also calling for fairness, transparency, and strict adherence to due process in handling student-related disciplinary matters.

The student body further urged FUOYE management to ensure that decisions affecting elected student officials comply with established regulations and do not undermine student representation on campus.
Adio’s suspension has continued to generate unease among sections of the student population, with calls for clarity over the process that informed the decision.
As of the time of filing this report, the university had not issued a detailed public statement on the outcome of the engagement.
NANS reaffirmed its commitment to intervening in issues affecting Nigerian students and maintaining dialogue with institutions to prevent escalation of disputes on campuses.
