IGP Appoints Iniedu As New Police Spokesman

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has approved the appointment of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force.

The appointment comes barely three months after Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid assumed the position, marking another leadership change in the Force Public Relations Department.

Announcing the appointment in a statement on Friday, the outgoing FPRO, DCP Placid, described Iniedu as an accomplished police officer with extensive experience in public communication, operational policing, intelligence management, institutional accountability and administration.

A native of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Iniedu holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo.

He has also undergone several professional trainings covering investigative interviewing, crime scene management, intelligence analysis, strategic communication and human rights-based policing.

Before his appointment, Iniedu served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and led initiatives aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability and public confidence in the police.

He previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, and held several operational and administrative positions across the country.

His past assignments include Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room, where he supervised the coordination and dissemination of crime and security information nationwide.

The statement noted that the Inspector-General expressed confidence in Iniedu’s ability to lead the Force Public Relations Department, stressing that his vast experience would strengthen the Force’s strategic communication efforts and improve public engagement as part of ongoing policing reforms.

Iniedu succeeds Placid, who was appointed Force Public Relations Officer on March 8, 2026, following the tenure of Benjamin Hundeyin.
