The Nigeria Football Federation has strengthened its commitment to long-term football development by extending the contract of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle and appointing him as the new head coach of Nigeria’s U-23 national team.
The appointment will see the Franco-Malian tactician oversee both the senior national team and the Olympic Eagles as the federation seeks greater continuity across its national team structures ahead of major international competitions.
The move comes as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the 2028 Olympic Games scheduled to take place in Los Angeles, United States, from July 14 to July 30, 2028.
Under the new arrangement, Chelle is expected to remain in charge of the Super Eagles until 2030 while simultaneously guiding the U-23 side in their quest to qualify for the Olympics and develop the next generation of national team players.

Reports indicate that the coach will continue to earn a monthly salary of $100,000 under his renewed agreement with the NFF.
The federation’s decision is seen as a strategic effort to create a seamless pathway between the U-23 team and the Super Eagles, allowing young talents to transition more effectively into the senior national setup.
Chelle, who has been entrusted with a broader responsibility, will now be tasked with delivering success on multiple fronts, including Nigeria’s ambitions in international tournaments and Olympic football qualification.
The appointment has been welcomed by many football stakeholders, who believe the dual role could enhance consistency in team philosophy and player development across Nigeria’s national teams.
With the Super Eagles and Olympic Eagles now under his supervision, expectations will be high as Chelle embarks on an expanded chapter of his coaching career with Nigerian football.
