Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, has cautioned residents against creating and circulating artificial intelligence-generated videos to promote misleading narratives about flooding in the state.
Wahab gave the warning in a post shared via his official X account on Tuesday, describing the spread of manipulated content as irresponsible and harmful to ongoing emergency response efforts.
According to the commissioner, the Lagos State Government relies on information shared across multiple platforms to monitor incidents, assess situations and coordinate appropriate responses to flooding and other environmental challenges.
He warned that the deliberate circulation of AI-generated or manipulated videos could undermine those efforts and create unnecessary panic.
“Using AI-generated videos to promote a particular agenda is neither responsible nor in the public interest,” Wahab wrote.

“We rely on information shared across various platforms to monitor developments and coordinate appropriate responses across the state.
Deliberately circulating manipulated or AI-generated content undermines these efforts and is unfair to those who have been genuinely affected by flooding.”
The commissioner urged members of the public to verify information before sharing it, stressing that everyone has a responsibility to ensure that content disseminated online is accurate and does not mislead the public.
“We all have a responsibility to ensure that the information we share is accurate and does not mislead the public.
I encourage everyone to refrain from creating or disseminating misleading content for attention or engagement,” he said.
He called on residents to act responsibly and support the state’s efforts to manage environmental challenges by sharing only factual information.
“Let us act responsibly and in the best interest of our dear state,” Wahab added.
His warning comes amid increased social media activity following recent heavy rainfall and flooding in parts of Lagos, with authorities continuing efforts to monitor affected areas and respond to environmental incidents across the state.
