FG To Airlift Another 270 Nigerians From South Africa

The Federal Government has finalized plans to bring home another 270 Nigerians from South Africa under its ongoing voluntary repatriation programme for citizens wishing to return to the country.

The return flight, to be operated by Air Peace, is scheduled to touch down at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, at about 5 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026.

Details of the operation were announced on Monday, July 6, 2026, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through its spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa.

Under the schedule released by the ministry, the aircraft will leave Lagos for Johannesburg at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7.

After boarding the returnees, it will depart South Africa at midnight for the overnight journey back to Nigeria, with arrival in Lagos expected in the early hours of Wednesday, subject to operational clearance.

The repatriation is being coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in collaboration with the Nigerian High Commission in Pretoria and other relevant government agencies as part of efforts to assist Nigerians who have opted to leave South Africa.

The latest exercise adds to a series of government-assisted return operations carried out over the years for Nigerians affected by a range of challenges abroad, including security concerns, immigration issues and humanitarian emergencies.

Air Peace has remained a strategic partner in the programme, providing airlift support for several evacuation missions undertaken by the Federal Government in response to crises affecting Nigerian citizens overseas.

The operation follows the successful return of another group of 269 Nigerians from Johannesburg in a similar exercise conducted recently, reinforcing the government’s commitment to providing a safe passage home for citizens who voluntarily seek repatriation.
