The Europeans tightened their grip on the contest after the restart, with Hans Vanaken extending the lead in the 57th minute to put Belgium firmly in control.
Substitute Romelu Lukaku then capped an impressive performance by adding a fourth goal in the third minute of stoppage time (90+3), sealing a comprehensive 4-1 victory.
The emphatic win sends Belgium into the World Cup last eight, where they will continue their quest for global glory, while the United States bow out of the tournament despite enjoying home support throughout their campaign.
