Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled coordinated terrorist attacks, neutralised a notorious terrorist commander, and recovered arms and other combat equipment during a series of operations across Zamfara and Katsina states.
The military disclosed that the operations, conducted on July 7, 2026, were based on credible intelligence and formed part of ongoing offensives against terrorist and criminal elements operating across the North-West.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday night by the Media Information Officer, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Aliyu Danja, troops of Sector 2, working in collaboration with local security volunteers, swiftly responded to intelligence indicating an imminent terrorist attack on communities in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
He said the troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, successfully repelling the attack and forcing the assailants to retreat with several casualties.
In a related operation around Dogon Kade, troops responding to an attack on farmers neutralised a notorious terrorist commander identified as Alhaji Tukur, said to be the younger brother of terrorist kingpin Alhaji Shehu Bagiwaye. Several other terrorists reportedly sustained gunshot wounds and fled the area.
The military also reported another successful operation at Sabon Gari in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area, where troops responded rapidly to reports of terrorist activities.
A follow-up exploitation operation resulted in the neutralisation of one terrorist and the recovery of a motorcycle believed to have been used by the fleeing suspects.
In Katsina State, troops on a fighting patrol engaged terrorists along the Danmusa–Yantumaki axis in Danmusa Local Government Area.
The troops overpowered the terrorists, forcing them to abandon their position and flee.

Items recovered from the operation include two AK-47 rifles, two magazines loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.
In a separate development, the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out precision airstrikes against a large group of terrorists reportedly numbering about 300 and travelling on motorcycles along the Sunke–Kumbo axis toward the Bayazaki riverine area en route to Gummi.
According to the military, the terrorists were intercepted after credible intelligence revealed they were planning coordinated attacks on civilian communities.
Three Nigerian Air Force aircraft were deployed to intercept the convoy, on sighting the aircraft, the terrorists reportedly attempted to disperse and seek cover beneath trees but were successfully engaged in precision airstrikes that disrupted the planned attack.
The Joint Task Force commended the Nigerian Air Force for what it described as a decisive and timely intervention that further degraded the operational capability of terrorist groups in the region.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist and criminal elements across the North-West, assuring residents that troops would continue to deny terrorists freedom of movement while protecting lives, livelihoods, and critical communities.
