President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has announced a N50 million relief package for five families affected by the recent abduction incident in Oriire Local Government Area of Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
Akpabio disclosed the support initiative during plenary on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, explaining that the intervention was designed to assist families who suffered losses during the incident.
According to the Senate President, the funds would be distributed equally among the affected families, with each family receiving N10 million.
The beneficiaries comprise the families of three servicemen who died while participating in rescue operations and two teachers who were killed in the attack.

The announcement followed deliberations by lawmakers over the incident, with the Senate calling for sustained efforts by security agencies to secure the release of other victims still in captivity and strengthen the country’s response to rising cases of abduction.
While the Senate moved to provide support for the affected families, Senator Abdul Ningi raised concerns over the need for a wider compensation framework for victims of insecurity.
Speaking under a point of order during plenary, Ningi urged the Senate to ensure that government assistance reaches all citizens who suffer losses from violent attacks, warning against any approach that could leave some victims excluded.
He maintained that support measures should be comprehensive and based on the principle that every Nigerian affected by insecurity deserves consideration and assistance.
