The Labour Party (LP) has dismissed claims that it failed to submit the names of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) closed its nomination portal.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, said the Labour Party uploaded the names of its presidential, vice-presidential and National Assembly candidates on Friday, July 10, 2026, four days before INEC’s Tuesday, July 14 deadline.
He said the submission complied fully with the commission’s nomination guidelines, describing reports suggesting otherwise as false and misleading.

Asogwa faulted the publication of the report, saying it relied on an unnamed source without giving the party an opportunity to respond, a practice he said fell short of professional journalism.
He expressed confidence that INEC’s final list of validly nominated candidates for the 2027 general elections would confirm the Labour Party’s compliance with the nomination process.
The party urged its members and the public to ignore what it described as misinformation aimed at undermining its preparations for the 2027 polls.
The clarification follows INEC’s extension of the nomination deadline from July 11 to July 14, 2026, to allow political parties additional time to complete the submission of candidates’ particulars.
