EFCC Frees Activists Randy Peter, Mama Pee After Questioning

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has released activists Randy Peter and Mama Pee after they responded to an invitation from the anti-graft agency in Abuja.

The pair regained their freedom shortly after midnight on Wednesday after undergoing several hours of questioning. They were, however, instructed to return to the EFCC headquarters on Thursday, according to fellow activist Justice Cracks.

Justice Cracks, who accompanied both activists to the commission’s office, announced their release in a post on X on Wednesday.

“My dear brother, @Peter4Nigeria, and my sister, @MamaPee__ were invited by the @officialEFCC. I personally accompanied them there on the afternoon of 15th July 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. It was a very long day,” Justice Crack said.

He said the activists were eventually allowed to leave the commission’s office after spending about 11 hours there.

“They were eventually released at around 12:00 a.m. and were asked to return the following day, 16th July 2026. For now, everything is fine,” he said.

Justice Cracks also shared a video from the EFCC headquarters’ car park while he waited for the activists to conclude their engagement with the commission.

Earlier in the day, concerns had grown over the duo’s whereabouts after Esther Umoh, who served as Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign photographer under the National Democratic Congress, disclosed on X that the activists had remained at the EFCC office hours after honouring the invitation.

“@MamaPee__ and @Peter4Nigeria were invited by the EFCC in Abuja, and as respectful citizens, they honored the invitation today. But as I type this, they are yet to be released by the commission,” Umoh wrote on X.

Their extended stay at the commission’s headquarters fuelled speculation on social media that they had been arrested. However, Justice Cracks later clarified that both activists had been released and directed to report back to the EFCC on Thursday.

The EFCC has not announced the reason for inviting the activists.
