Former Minister of Transportation and African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, has been thrown into mourning following the death of his mother, Mrs. Mary Amaechi.
The family announced her passing in a statement released on Thursday through the Rotimi Amaechi Media Office, revealing that the family matriarch died peacefully at the age of 89.
According to the statement, the late Mary Amaechi was a devoted Christian, respected community leader and a woman whose life was marked by unwavering faith, service and commitment to peace and unity.
The family described her as a pillar of strength who nurtured love and togetherness within the family while dedicating herself to serving her community.
“Late Mrs. Mary Amaechi was a cherished matriarch who held her family together in love, peace and unity. She was a community women’s leader and Christian leader whose beliefs and faith in God were firm and resolute,” the statement read.

It further noted that she earned widespread admiration within and beyond her community for her compassion, kindness and willingness to support others.
The family said she would be fondly remembered for her warmth, generosity and enduring impact on the lives of those who came in contact with her.
Amaechi and his family also expressed appreciation to friends, supporters and well-wishers for the outpouring of sympathy and prayers received following her death.
“Rt. Hon. Amaechi and the entire family are profoundly grateful for the outpouring of condolences and love already being shown to them during this difficult time.
“Details regarding funeral arrangements will be shared with the public in due course. The family appreciates the continued thoughts and prayers from friends, supporters and well-wishers,” the statement added.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family at a later date.
