Bauchi Police Launch Crackdown On Traffic Offenders

The Bauchi State Police Command has commenced a statewide enforcement exercise aimed at tackling traffic violations and improving safety on roads across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, announced the development on Thursday, saying the operation followed a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to strengthen compliance with traffic regulations nationwide.

Aliyu explained that the command had observed a growing number of traffic offences within Bauchi metropolis and along major highways, resulting in increased congestion, road accidents and threats to public safety.

According to him, the exercise will cover all categories of road users, including commercial drivers, tricycle operators, motorcyclists, horse riders and private vehicle owners.

He warned that vehicles involved in traffic violations would be impounded, while offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.

He urged residents to cooperate with officers carrying out the exercise and encouraged members of the public to report reckless driving and other traffic-related offences to the nearest police station.

The command stated that the enforcement exercise has taken immediate effect.
