The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of armed robbery and recovered a cut-to-size pistol and four rounds of live ammunition from him in Owo.
The suspect, identified as Ogunmola Oluwasola, a resident of Idasen Street, Owo, was arrested by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad during a stop-and-search operation along the Owo–Ute Road.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the arrest was made on Friday, August 7, 2026, when operatives conducting routine patrols and stop-and-search duties intercepted the suspect for a search.
During the search, the officers reportedly recovered one cut-to-size pistol and four rounds of live ammunition in his possession.
The suspect was immediately taken into police custody, while the recovered firearm and ammunition were secured as exhibits.
Police said the suspect’s statement has been obtained as detectives intensify investigations to determine the source of the weapon, his intended use of the firearm and whether he has links to armed robbery, kidnapping or other criminal activities in Owo and surrounding communities.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended the operatives for their vigilance and commitment to proactive policing.
Ohagwu reiterated the Command’s determination to sustain intelligence-led patrols, stop-and-search operations and other security measures across the state, particularly along major highways and identified crime-prone areas.
The Commissioner warned criminals and individuals involved in the unlawful possession or trafficking of firearms that the Police and other security agencies would continue to pursue them.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue, with the Command seeking to establish his possible links to other criminal activities and identify any accomplices.
The Ondo State Police Command also urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information that could assist security agencies in preventing crime and protecting lives and property across the state.
