The Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned until September 21, 2026, further hearing in the suit filed by socialite Afolabi Kazeem Michael, popularly known as KC Luxury, challenging his continued detention by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Justice Friday Ogazi fixed the date on Wednesday, September 9, after hearing submissions from KC Luxury’s lawyer, Abdulakeem Labi-Lawal, SAN, and NDLEA counsel, Abu Ibrahim.
Labi-Lawal argued that a 30-day detention order granted to the NDLEA by Justice Akintayo Aluko did not require the agency to keep his client in custody for the entire period.
He said KC Luxury could be released on bail if the agency considered its investigation sufficiently advanced.
The lawyer also disclosed that his client had separately challenged the detention order before Justice Aluko, where arguments had been concluded and a ruling was awaited.
Ibrahim did not oppose the adjournment but told the court that the detention order was obtained before KC Luxury approached Justice Ogazi seeking an order for his production in court.
Justice Ogazi consequently adjourned the matter to September 21.
KC Luxury was arrested on August 13 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while preparing to travel to Paris.

His arrest followed the NDLEA’s seizure of 184.5kg of cocaine at a DHL facility within the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company premises in Ikeja on August 3.
The agency described the seizure as its largest cocaine interception involving a courier company and alleged that KC Luxury was linked to an international drug-trafficking network.
It also arrested Lawal Kehinde, an employee of a logistics company allegedly connected to the consignment.
NDLEA Chairman Buba Marwa said operatives recovered €7,750, £2,800, N100,000 and jewellery from KC Luxury at the time of his arrest.
On August 20, Justice Aluko granted the NDLEA 30 days to continue its investigation while keeping KC Luxury in custody.
KC Luxury subsequently challenged the order, arguing that he had not been formally charged.
On August 27, Justice Ogazi ordered the NDLEA to produce him in court following a fundamental rights application seeking his release or bail.
The September 21 proceedings will determine the next step in the matter, while the separate challenge to the 30-day detention order remains before Justice Aluko.
KC Luxury has not been convicted of any offence, and the allegations against him remain subject to judicial determination.
