Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced plans to give every child in the United States a share in SpaceX next year, describing the proposed initiative as the first of several similar efforts.
Musk made the announcement in a post on X on Monday, writing: “Next year, I will give one of my SpaceX shares to every kid in America. This will be the first of many.”
The statement has drawn attention to the possibility of a large-scale initiative that would give American children a direct stake in the privately held aerospace company.
However, Musk did not provide further details about how the proposed distribution would work, including the eligibility criteria, the age range of beneficiaries, the number of shares involved or how the programme would be funded and administered.

SpaceX, founded by Musk in 2002, develops rockets, spacecraft and satellite-based internet services through its Starlink network. The company has become a major player in the commercial space industry, with operations spanning satellite launches, cargo missions and human spaceflight.
Because SpaceX is privately held, its shares are not traded on public stock exchanges in the same way as shares in publicly listed companies. Any broad distribution of its equity would therefore raise questions about the transfer of ownership, the valuation of the shares and the arrangements required to hold them on behalf of children.
It also remains unclear whether the proposed initiative would involve direct share ownership by minors or a custodial arrangement managed by parents or guardians.
Musk added that the planned giveaway would be the first of many, but did not identify any additional initiatives or provide a timeline for their implementation.
Further details are expected to clarify the scope and practical arrangements of the proposal.
