Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over the security provided for his campaign billboards in Kaduna State, contrasting it with the insecurity facing residents across Nigeria.
Atiku made the criticism in a post on his X account on Friday, questioning why the president’s billboards reportedly require security guards while communities continue to experience attacks by bandits and terrorists.
“Bola, you claim Nigerians love you, yet your billboards in Kaduna require security guards. Bandits raid villages, terrorists attack communities, and families live in fear,” Atiku wrote.
He argued that the protection provided for the billboards highlighted what he described as misplaced priorities in the government’s handling of security challenges.
“Your posters enjoy protection that millions of Nigerians can only dream of. What a tragic statement of your government’s priorities,” he added.

The former vice president urged Tinubu to give the safety of Nigerians the same level of attention he believed was being given to protecting the president’s public image.
“Bola, please protect Nigerians with the same urgency you protect your image!” Atiku said.
The post comes amid continued public concerns over insecurity in parts of the country, including attacks by armed groups on rural communities and the abduction of residents.
Atiku, who is a prominent opposition figure, has repeatedly criticised the Tinubu administration over its handling of national issues. His latest remarks focused on the contrast between the reported security around campaign billboards and the threats confronting ordinary citizens.
The post did not include details about the specific arrangements for security at the billboards, and the presidency’s response to Atiku’s criticism was not included in the statement.
