The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, have pledged to prioritise national unity, security, anti-corruption and poverty reduction if elected into office.
The duo made the commitment during a town hall meeting with supporters and residents in Enugu State as part of their nationwide engagement with Nigerians.
Obi disclosed this in a statement on Friday, saying the meeting followed a similar engagement held in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Thursday, October 29.
He said the Enugu meeting provided an opportunity to interact with supporters and citizens on the country’s challenges and the need for improved governance.
According to him, the NDC candidates reiterated their commitment to tackling corruption, strengthening national security and investing heavily in critical sectors, particularly health and education.
They also pledged to pursue policies aimed at lifting Nigerians out of poverty and improving living conditions across the country.
Obi said the gathering attracted large numbers of supporters and enthusiastic residents who lined the streets and filled the venue.

Ahead of the town hall meeting, Obi and Kwankwaso also met with leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria in Enugu State.
The meeting, he said, focused on national unity, religious harmony and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.
The former Anambra State governor stressed that effective leadership required listening to citizens and understanding their needs, adding that those seeking public office must be willing to receive feedback on the effects of government policies and decisions.
“Leadership must be about listening to the people. Those seeking to lead must understand what Nigerians need and be willing to receive feedback on the impact of government policies and decisions,” Obi said.
He thanked party members, supporters and organisers for their commitment to the engagement, while expressing appreciation to the people of Enugu State for their reception.
Obi concluded with his message of optimism about the country’s future, declaring that a new Nigeria was possible and that the country would be fine.
