From winning audiences with his portrayal of Mama Deola to securing a major corporate endorsement, launching a fashion label and venturing into filmmaking, Folagade Banks is extending his influence beyond social media.
For Folagade Banks, the laughter that once filled social media screens has opened doors to Nigeria’s corporate world. The content creator and actor has secured an endorsement deal with the Dangote Group, adding a significant milestone to a career that has grown beyond comedy.
Popularly recognised for his portrayal of Mama Deola, Banks joins a growing number of entertainers whose digital popularity has translated into commercial partnerships with major organisations.
The Dangote deal follows his endorsement partnership with Toyota Nigeria in September 2025. The automobile company announced the collaboration on its social media platforms, featuring Banks in promotional content for its Prado and Hiace models.
Behind his growing commercial profile is a character that has become familiar to millions of social media users.
Banks began creating content in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, while approaching his final year at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, where he studied Geography. In an August 2023 interview with The Punch, he said his major breakthrough came in 2021, a year after he started making videos.
That breakthrough came with Mama Deola, a character inspired by his observations of African mothers and their familiar approach to family life.

Outspoken, dramatic and deeply involved in her children’s affairs, Mama Deola draws humour from everyday experiences involving parenting, relationships, marriage, money and family disagreements. Her distinctive Yoruba expressions, exaggerated reactions and unsolicited advice have helped establish a recognisable identity for Banks.
He told The Punch that conversations with friends about their mothers’ behaviour influenced the character. His upbringing in a disciplined household and observations of his mother, a retired headmistress, also shaped its development.
By building his content around a relatable cultural figure rather than relying solely on trending jokes, Banks created a character with a consistent identity and an audience that has become central to his commercial appeal.

Beyond endorsements, he has ventured into fashion. In February 2026, he launched House of Folagade, a clothing label specialising in Adire designs, including contemporary interpretations of traditional Nigerian bubu dresses.
The launch campaign featured entertainers and content creators such as Broda Shaggi, Nas Boi and Shank Comics modelling pieces from the collection. Banks described the venture as a gift to supporters who had embraced Mama Deola over the years. The dresses were advertised at prices starting from N50,000.
The label adds fashion entrepreneurship to his growing portfolio, with indigenous Nigerian textiles at the centre of the venture.
His ambitions have also extended to filmmaking. Banks produced and starred in A Mama Deola Wedding Story, commissioned as Kava TV’s first original production and premiered on September 3, 2026.
Directed by Femi Adebayo, the feature-length production brought together an ensemble cast that included Omowunmi Dada, Rotimi Salami, Shaffy Bello, Bukky Wright, Iya Rainbow, Erica Nlewedim and Toyin Adegbola.
The film takes Mama Deola beyond short-form comedy, placing the character at the centre of a wedding drama involving family tensions, financial pressures and social expectations. According to Banks, its elaborate wedding sequence featured about 600 cast members and extras.
The production also created an opportunity to support emerging creatives. Through an empowerment initiative organised around the film, three selected content creators received N1 million each and an iPhone 17. The programme attracted approximately 4,000 entries.
From online comedy to corporate advertising, fashion and feature filmmaking, Banks is building a career that draws on the recognition Mama Deola brought him while exploring opportunities beyond the character.
Although Mama Deola remains his defining creation, his latest ventures point to a broader ambition: turning digital influence into a presence across multiple creative and commercial industries.
