The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sanctioned 66 personnel across its nationwide formations over various acts of misconduct, including alleged involvement in arms dealing.
The Commandant-General of the corps, Ahmed Audi, disclosed this on Friday while speaking with journalists in Abuja.
Audi said the disciplinary measures included dismissal, compulsory retirement, demotion and formal warnings, depending on the seriousness of the offences.
He explained that the sanctions followed investigations into allegations of misconduct and were approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board.
According to him, some affected personnel would face prosecution over serious offences, while others had already been dismissed following prosecution.
The NSCDC chief said the disciplinary process involved established procedures, including orderly room trials and investigations by relevant staff disciplinary committees, before the board approved the sanctions.
He added that the affected personnel were drawn from various formations, including state and zonal commands, area commands, the national headquarters and other units across the country.
Audi reaffirmed the corps’ commitment to maintaining discipline, warning that conduct capable of undermining its professional standards would not be tolerated.

He described discipline as the foundation of every military and paramilitary organisation, adding that the sanctions were intended to strengthen accountability and discourage further violations of the corps’ regulations.
Meanwhile, the commandant-general disclosed that approximately 17,000 personnel had been promoted following an exercise involving about 22,000 officers and other ranks.
He explained that those promoted met the required performance criteria and qualified based on available vacancies approved by the Federal Government.
Audi added that the promotion results were ready and would be displayed on the corps’ notice boards to enable personnel to check their individual outcomes.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu for supporting the promotion exercise and other reforms aimed at improving personnel welfare and strengthening the NSCDC’s professional capacity.
