Oba of Benin monarch, Omo N’Oba Ewuare II, has sacked the presiding priest of Holy Aruosa Cathedral, Ohen-Osa Harrison Okao.
The priest was said to have acted in defiance to the long tradition of the church.
It was learnt that the decision to sack the priest was taken by the traditional head of the church, Oba Ewuare, joint elders committee and top palace chiefs after Harrison Okao was found guilty of violating the long-standing rules of the church.
In a statement that confirmed the development and signed by the Benin Traditional Council Secretary, Mr Frank Irabor, the decision to sack the chief priest would restore sanctity to the foremost Benin national church. The sacked chief priest was also implored to submit the church property in his possession to the head Iweguae, Chief Esere.
