Hoodlums set police station ablaze in Ebonyi

Hoodlums numbering about one thousand and suspected to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, on Thursday set a police station in Ebonyi State ablaze.

They hoodlums it was learnt, laid siege to the Police Divisional Headquarters in Isu, Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State and set it ablaze.

The state Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, confirmed the development in a statement issued in Abakaliki, the state capital on Thursday night.

Odah said that the incident led to loss of several properties belonging to the police division including its two patrol vehicles that were burnt down.

“On Thursday, at about 0325hrs, hoodlums, suspected to be members of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), attacked Onicha Divisional Police Headquarters, Isu, in Onicha LGA of Ebonyi State.

“One policeman sustained machete cut injuries during the attack and he is responding to treatment in the hospital,” the statement read in part.

The police authority, however, said an investigation would be launched into the incident in order to bring the perpetrators to book.
