FUL staff, students celebrate tenure end of ‘tyranny’ VC

Staff and students of Federal University Lokoja were in a celebratory mood on Saturday, seeing the tenure of the school Vice-Chancellor, Professor Angela Freeman Miri, come to an end, it was learnt.

After serving five years as the VC of the institution, a send forth party was said to have been organised to mark Miri’s tenure end on Saturday.

However, many of the staff and students of the school, rather than celebrate her for the service she rendered to the school, were instead rejoicing because her alleged tyrannical rule of the institution came to an end at last.

Obituary posters of the outgoing VC were pasted at the entrance of her office and strategic areas of the campus, supposedly by staff and students, who never liked her style of leadership.

Part of the writings on the posters read, “With gratitude to God, we announce the successful passing into hell of the tyranny personified.

“ANGELA FREEMAN MIRI, whose happy end occurred on February 12th 2021 after 5 years of corruption.

“End of tyranny has come. FUL shall breathe the breath of fresh life.

“Hallelujah, Alhamdulilahi”.

It was learnt that Professor Miri, while in charge as the school’s VC, was at loggerheads with the institution’s chapter of Academic Staff Union of Universities.

The development, it was gathered, resulted in the union splitting into two factions.

Another allegation against her was that she awarded most of the institution’s contracts during her reign to herself using her husband and children.

There are several other allegations leveled against her by those who did not like her leadership style.

Those staff and students, were said to have, aside the obituary posters, mocked her to her face during her send forth party to the extent that she allegedly became uncomfortable and quickly left the scene.
