Scores of Islamic State of West Africa Province fighters have been killed by Boko Haram members.
The bloody fight between the two terrorists group that have continued to torment Nigeria and neighbouring countries took place at Sunawa village, located around a border area close to Niger Republic.
According to a statement made by an al-Qaida-affiliated media outfit,Al Thabat on Monday in Maiduguri, the clash occurred after ISWAP abducted dozens of Boko Haram women.
“Boko Haram fighters subsequently attacked the ISWAP border base and rescued their women from captivity,” the media outfit said.
Following the clash, the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig-Gen. Mohammed Yerima, said in Maiduguri, Borno State capital:
“ISWAP broke off from the Abubakar Shekau-led Boko Haram in 2016. Since then, a bitter war of attrition and violent confrontations have been occurring between the factions of terror.”
He added that the incident had further exposed how disorganised and disoriented the terrorists currently are in the Lake Chad region.
